I just posted this at the [info]circletpress comm, but figured I'd do it here also with a note that it is OK to forward and post in writers forums and so on. Please pass the word! We got such great stuff for the Valentine's Day contest I figure it's time to do another one:

It's time for another contest at Circlet.com! This month's contest is looking for the best entries of either microfiction or essay-form that are on the theme "the sex toy I wish existed, but doesn't." What do you dream of? Whether it is magical, technological, psychosexual, or what, craft your idea into either a microfiction or an essay and submit it to us by April 15th!

Word limit is 1000 words. Submit either as text in the body of the message or as an attachment. Be sure to include:
1. Name you would like used on the published piece
2. Your actual name and physical mailing address
3. A brief bio or byline that can run with the piece

Winners will receive a copy of The Erotic Writers Market Guide (a $19.95 value!) and a trophy in the form of a web graphic/banner that can be proudly displayed on blogs and websites!

All submissions should go by email to "circletintern" at Gmail. Deadline April 15th.

Turns out I will be on programming at Boskone this weekend. I'll be there Friday night, speaking on a panel on Utopian Fiction, and one on Erotica. If I can find a room to do it in, we may also have a little book launch party for Best Fantastic Erotica. More champagne!

No idea what's going on with my sleeping. Three nights in a row I've had some form of insomnia, and didn't get more than 5 hours uninterrupted any of the three. So, yes, I am a zombie now.

Meanwhile, things are moving along for my upcoming book of erotic short stories, White Flames. I've returned the proofs, there is a cover design which I'll soon have a copy of I can share here, they're asking for my photo.

And anyone who wants a review copy of Best Fantastic Erotica (I mean, if you actually have a place to review it and aren't merely trying to scam a free copy), speak up now. They're mailing in a few days.

Thought I'd point those of you who don't read the [info]circletpress blog itself to the fact that www.circlet.com has had some nifty essays published recently:

Lauren P. Burka contributed a piece on writers in the sf/f genre who handle sex well: Great Science Fiction with Great Sex Writing

And Jean Roberta provided one entitled In Defense of Breeders, on the lack of some writers in the genre to recognize the reproductive consequences of sex.

We're also running a contest!

Want to win a copy of Best Fantastic Erotica? Submit a 250 to 1000 word microfiction to our Future of Valentine's Day contest! If your piece is chosen for publication at Circlet.com you'll win a copy of the book!

To submit to the contest, please send an email that includes:

  • Your Name

  • Name You Want Your Piece Published Under

  • A brief bio or contributor's note

  • A 250 - 1000 word microfiction on the subject of "The Future of Valentine's Day

  • The mailing address you'd like your prize sent to!

Send your submission via email to "circletintern" at Gmail.com! Winning entry/entries will be published the week of Valentine's Day! (Of course...)

So, in my never-ending quest to dominate the interwebs (no, not like that, that's earn better), I've started an LJ comm for [info]circletpress. The theory is that it'll be another way to get the word out about Circlet and send traffic to our web site and so forth.

So if you like erotic science fiction, please friend the comm.

While you're at it, did you know you can list "Circlet Press" as an interest? You can! Join cool folks like, well, mostly Circlet authors and former interns, by adding it to your LJ "interests" list. "Erotic science fiction" is a popular interest, too, looks like...

At the Circlet web site the top post is currently a sweet article on teledildonics by M. Christian.

My super-fantastic intern, Encian Pastel, wrote a nice little essay on genderqueer fiction. He gets a gold star. Please read it at www.circlet.com.

And we are live!!

Check out www.circlet.com and see we're up and running for real.

To test the ecommerce system anyone in the US/Canada with a paypal account can now buy one of five selected titles for only $2.50 a book (okay, $7.10 with the shipping, but that is still less than half price on most of the books and a great bargain for the $24.95 hardcover of Sex Noir...) by going to the site now and looking for the "testing special sale books." The sale will run through June 1st.

And anyone who has been promising me a microfiction or an essay for Writers on Writing, your deadline is officially here.

Wow, wow, and wow. A crew of 13 people mucked out my basement and made room for the Circlet overstock we've been paying through the nose to store elsewhere. And cleaned the stock room. And dusted. And threw away immense amounts of cardboard. (Well, put out for recycling... though I hear a friend of a friend is coming to take them for compost instead! Nothing like a couple hundred cardboard boxes...)

Thanks to Thud, Topper, Bryt, Phi, Nick, Claudia, Regis, John, Janet, and Andrew, and of course Kelly for organizing the whole thing. You guyza da best.

Ok, well, I forged ahead and put "The Velderet" up as an ebook on Lulu.com today. For five bucks people can download a PDF version of the print book (produced from the original production files, so it should look pretteh...).

I still feel like I have no idea how to "sell" an ebook other than make a link from my web site and tell people at my readings. But maybe that is the point? People will have ways of finding things on the web on their own?

Jules, I am still planning to email you for real advice about this. I've just been too slammed to read even half of my email lately.

Meanwhile, any advice, admonitions that I did things wrong, ideas about this, etc... please comment.

Oh yeah, and here's the URL where you can see it: http://www.lulu.com/content/487944

The other one I did that is an ebook only is: http://www.lulu.com/content/320801

Stuff on Lulu isn't "protected" in any way. Once someone buys the PDF, they can share it around just like a pirated MP3. Right now, though, I think if I had an audience of people who were so eager for it that they would bother to trade it around, then the 'piracy' would almost be a good thing...

My thought for other Circlet books is to do abridged versions for the ebooks. Most of the ebooks I see seem to be around $5. What about doing 5 stories for $5, while the print book has 12-15 stories in it and is $15 in the bookstore? Just trying to figure out what will work and what's fair. Anything that makes money flow from readers to authors is a good thing, in my view.

Okay, I ranted here about this a week or so ago, but didn't make the "official" announcement. Well, here's the announcement, finally. The short version is that Circlet is launching a web and internet-based strategy to push our love of erotic science fiction. This means podcasts, email lists, blogging, shopping carts, etc... with the goal of continuing to sell (and hopefully publish new) books in paper form. Ebooks too, maybe?

It's all going to start with a big party on November 4th, details: under the cut )

For those not coming to the party, there are still ways you can donate monetarily:

details on the ebay auction, 'sponsoring' a page in the book, etc... )

You can get on our snazzy new email announcement list:
by emailing us... )

Of course, we're installing Word Press and will soon have our own Circlet blog, RSS feed, and stuff of that nature going, provided corwin doesn't get too distracted by other projects.

But I am also going to need things like:
• authors to read teasing excerpts of their fiction for our podcast
• authors to write content about erotic sf, sex in the future, etc...
• people to donate bits of original music to be used in the podcast
• other stuff that I don't even know I need yet but you might...

You get the idea.

Now if, by chance, you stumbled on this blog and have no idea what Circlet Press is, here's the short version of our "company bio":under the cut )

I feel there was more I was going to say, but perhaps this post is long enough already...
