Yayyyyyyy!!!
My. Book. Is. Here!
Wheeee!!!
WHITE FLAMES is here.
I've been waiting for this book for a long time.
BLACK FEATHERS, my first collection of erotic short stories came out in 1998. That was ten years ago! My agent and I have been trying to sell WHITE FLAMES, the next collection, since, oh, 2002? But publishing and everything was in a post 9-11 slump then, and the manuscript languished. Staff turnover at various houses variously revived and killed its hopes at various places.
It eventually landed with Don Weise (formerly of Cleis Press) at Carroll & Graf. Then PGW went bankrupt, hell froze over, and Avalon Publishing Group (of which C&G was a part) was sold to Perseus. Perseus summarily disbanded Carroll & Graf and Thunders Mouth press, essentially saying they were not supporting fiction imprints anymore. The book was therefore orphaned last year, just when it was on the verge of appearing.
Thankfully, Running Press, which is part of Avalon also, decided to adopt it and VOILA! Ten years after the first collection, here is the second.
The cover is beautiful. Gorgeous. I'll insert it here if I can get the HTML right. What you can't see here is that not only did they spell my name right, there is spot varnish on the title. If you are a book geek like me, you understand how nice this is. The overall cover is laminated with a matte finish, but then the title text has an additional layer of shiny, glossy varnish added so it stands out. It's not as gaudy as, say, stamping the title with foil, but it costs almost as much.
In short, it is verrah nice.
I am amused to find that the beautiful image of the naked woman under gossamer came from GettyImages.
I'm also amused to note that the cover design bears a passing resemblance, in both the front cover type design and the fact that it's a woman under gossamer, to the hardcover edition of Nymph by Francesca Lia Block, which I designed. Yeah. Wonder if my book's designer saw that book at some point?
I have not found any typos yet. Right on.
Here's that Nymph cover:
